The Big Day Is Finally Here

Morning dawns with warmer temps but the threat of snow.  You know, it's got to be me, every time I go to the Jersey shows; something goes wrong with the weather!  But hey, you make do!

Our goal was to make it there around 10:30, get Rolex organized and start grooming, which basically we did with no problems.  Rolex is NOT fond of ex-pens, so I didn't want him there any earlier then necessary for fear that he might have unfinished business that would happen in the ring!  He purposely got up late and didn't have breakfast so we could avoid that mishap.  In reality that MAY have been a poor decision on my part.

Aside from not being able to find my sponges, things were pretty much like a normal day at a dog show, except that I am surrounded by good friends who came to watch.

As I changed into my show clothes, I decided to do something different with my hair than I normally do (hey, it WAS Westminster after all...another poor decision.

And now it's off to the ring.  My fear of being first in line was quickly allayed as I was fourth in the line up.  Everything was going pretty darn smoothly until we went for our down and back in front of the judge.  Remember I said that Rolex didn't have breakfast? Well, the piece of bait on the floor right in the middle of the ring was just TOO darned tempting. He stopped to try to get it going in both directions and when I distracted him with his OWN bait he jumped into the air to try for that!  We renamed him "LEAPING" Rolex.

And now we are off for our individual go round.  Poor decision number two is revealed...  Normally I have my hair in a ponytail and my comb is stuffed in the elastic.  By changing my hair I had a looser comb than usual and it fell out of my hair (once again Rolex tries to catch it!)  There were OOOOH's from the bleachers.  So that was the end of my comb for the rest of the show.  Hey, like I said, you make do!

Suffice to say we made it through and the video will prove it, if you wish to watch.

Friends who were in the stands that have watched me for the last four years said I did a nice job and I take a great deal of pride in knowing that I have only been doing this for a relatively  short time and I was the only amateur owner/handler in the ring.   Rolex, my boy with the jaded past and I had our day at the "Big Top" and we will never forget it!
